PAUL – TiAnna Stimpson returned home from Gillette, Wyoming Sunday with her horse Shorty after competing in the National High School Rodeo last week.

Stimpson took 29th in the cutting competition after competing against over 150 other individuals. “I was disappointed at first because I had hoped to make the top 20,” said Stimpson, “After a couple of days I’m okay with it.” She finished 32nd last year and was pleased that she improved.

Stimpson received a 205 in the first go and got a 202 in the second go. This gave her a total score of 407. In the Idaho State competition, she finished fourth, but last week she was second among the other Idaho competitors.

Because Stimpson graduated from Minico High School this year she will no longer be able to compete in High School rodeo. She will be attending Idaho State University and plans to continue her rodeo experience.

BURLEY – The American Legion Division A Idaho State Tournament is being held this week in Burley.

Seven teams from Idaho are traveling to compete along with the Burley Green Sox.

Teams that are competing are the Pocatello Razorbacks, Nampa Braves, Sandpoint Lakers, Emmett Blue Devils, Moscow Blue Devils, Bonneville Bees, and the Eagle Vipers. The tournament will be double elimination and will be held at the Burley High School baseball fields.

The games will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday and end on Sunday or Monday. If the undefeated team gets beat in the championship game on Sunday, then there will have to be a final game on Monday at 1:00 p.m. to decide the championship.

Because the Spudman Triathlon is also being held on Saturday, people attending the American Legion tournament had problems booking rooms on Friday night. Some had to get rooms in Twin Falls because Burley was sold out.

“It’s a privilege and an honor to host a tournament like this,” said Burley Green Sox coach Devin Kunz, “We have great support with our parents and the community, and businesses. It takes several volunteers to run a successful program.”

The Green Sox have had a good season this year. Their record is 25-17, but they know they are facing some tough competition. “We like our chances in the tournament,” said Kunz, “The kids have paid their dues and it is time for them to play ball in front of great crowds and against great competition.”
