Burley ousted by Jerome

BURLEY – The Burley Bobcat boys basketball season ended Monday night in a loser-out conference game held in Jerome.
The #3 Jerome Tigers hosted the #4 Bobcats. The teams were playing to stay alive in the district tournament and the opportunity to play Minico Tuesday night.
The Tigers and the Bobcats had each won a game against each other this season. Burley won the last contest 54-52.
Starting for Burley were Bill Blauer, Karch Hinckley, Nelson Geary, Alex Greener, and Zach Martin.
From the moment of the tipoff, Jerome took control of the game. The Tigers outscored the Bobcats 9-14 in the first quarter. During the second quarter, Jerome pulled further away from Burley and went in at halftime with a 34-21 lead.
The Bobcats were able to get the score to within 11 points twice in the third quarter, but Jerome was always able to regain their momentum and pull back ahead.
The final score of the game was Burley 44, Jerome 62.
Leading the scoring for Burley was Blauer with 13 followed by Geary and Alex Larson with 9.
The Bobcats ended their season at 11-14 overall. This season’s juniors returning for the 2010-2011 season will be Alex Larson, Parker Arritt, Alex Greener, Jake Mills, and Aaron Tolman.
Three sophomores were brought up to the varsity for the district tournament. They were Cody Hosteen, Garrett Robins, and Jason Boehmer.
Minico struggles against Jerome

MINICO – The Minico Spartans boys basketball team’s season came to an end Tuesday night at Minico High School against the Jerome Tigers.
Jerome led most of the game while several Spartans struggled to make something happen.
The score at halftime was Jerome 29, Minico 23. The Tigers outscored in all of the quarters but the third quarter, when Minico scored 18 points to Jerome’s 17 points. The Spartans, however, could not maintain the momentum.
Jerome won the game 64-56. Leading scorer for the Spartans was Mark Leon with 20 points followed by Kevin Jurgensmeier with 10 points.
The Spartans end their season 16-7. Seniors who will not be returning next year for Minico are Shad Hubsmith, Mark Leon, Coltin Johnson, and Adam Vogt.
While the Spartans are losing some key players this year, they will have several strong players returning. Those returning will be Edgar Espinosa, Bronson Miller, Casey Christiansen, and Kevin Jurgensmeier. With these players returning, we haven’t heard the last of the Minico Spartans as they should be strong contenders during the 2010-2011 season.
Oakley’s season comes to an end

OAKLEY – The Oakley boys basketball team played the Shoshone Indians Tuesday night in Murtaugh at the Snake River Conference tournament.
The Oakley Hornets played their first tournament game on February 16th against the Hagerman Pirates. Oakley lost to Hagerman by a score of 62-54.
The next game for the Hornets was against Lighthouse Christian on Wednesday. Oakley won that game 73-57.
This set up the next game for Oakley on Tuesday night against Shoshone. Oakley started the game strong in the first quarter, outscoring the Indians 15-8.
Shoshone rallied in the second quarter and began to hit their shots and play better defense. At halftime the score was Shoshone 31, Oakley 27.
Oakley wasn’t able to stop the Indians and lost to them 65-52. This eliminated Oakley from the tournament and ended their season.
Leading scorer for the Hornets was Hunter Wadsworth with 15 points followed by Payson Bedke with 13 points and Paxton Robinson with 12 points.
Oakley ended their season at 10-12. Seniors who are graduating this year are Paxton Robinson, Payson Bedke, Weston Cooper, and Hunter Wadsworth.
Declo still alive in tournament

DECLO – The Declo Hornets boys basketball team is still alive in the Canyon Conference Tournament.
The Hornets won their first game against the Valley Vikings by a score of 82-45.
Declo traveled to Glenns Ferry on Thursday to play the Glenns Ferry Pilots, who are favored to win the tournament. The Hornets have lost the previous two games against the Pilots during the regular season.
Declo fought hard and stayed close to Glenns Ferry, but were unable to overtake them. The Pilots beat the Hornets by a score of 72-67.
However, the Hornets eliminated the Valley Vikings from the tournament Tuesday night by beating Valley 68-35. This win by Declo ended the season for the Vikings.
Declo’s Tyler Briggs had a game high 14 points, followed by Jeremy Jenkins and Brandon Petersen, who each had 13 points.
The Hornets will travel to Glenns Ferry Thursday night. If Declo loses, their season will be over. If the Hornets win, they will play the Pilots Friday night. The winner of that game will be the district champions and will go to the state tournament. The loser’s season will be over.
