I am tired of the misleading articles claiming that the ‘unvaccinated’ are overwhelming our hospitals. To set the record straight, here are the facts.

~ 1980s, Idaho had close to four hospital beds for every 1,000 residents. Today, the state has slightly more than two beds per 1,000 Idahoans. U.S. hospitals have been grappling with this problem for decades.

~ 2012, Idaho had 3,559 hospital beds, according to ID HHS. At the end of 2019, our hospital bed count had grown by 6%, while the state’s population had grown by almost 12%.

~ Despite nearly doubling their revenue (from CARES and other Federal money), hospitals have not adequately invested in increasing availability, which grew by less than 1% between 2019 and 2021.

~This population increase might have been manageable if hospitals had not insisted on more government-run healthcare. After Congress passed Obamacare a decade ago, our hospitals and their ally - Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry - sponsored Medicaid expansion.  Unfortunately, in 2018, low-information voters were conned into the notion that Idaho could get it free. Medicaid expansion has a well-documented negative history. The Foundation for Government Accountability’s research shows that states which expanded Medicaid saw a reduction in hospital capacity while states that did not were able to increase. The ‘experts’ grossly underestimated the program’s application by 53%.

~ Despite the healthcare strain, all three major hospital conglomerates threatened to fire employees who refused the ‘vaccine’. Although St. Luke’s recently sent a message that no one had been terminated for declining the injection, employees have quit because of the mandate. An unstaffed bed is essentially equivalent to no bed.

~ The designation of ‘unvaccinated’ is misleading.  According to the SCDHD, local hospitals use the CDC definition of ‘unvaccinated,’ which is that everyone who is not fully vaccinated is categorically ‘unvaccinated’.  Statistically, 70% of the current covid-related hospitalizations have had at least one shot, with 26% being fully vaccinated.

The unscrupulous Mainstream Media has perpetuated the lie that the ‘unvaccinated’ are causing the healthcare crisis. The true story exposes the hospitals’ role in the situation: not enough beds to begin with, demand for more government intervention, lack of pro-action once COVID hit, unwarranted demands on healthcare workers, and misleading ‘unvaccinated’ labeling created the misperception and the calamity.  We need to appropriately blame big hospital businesses, not the ‘unvaccinated,’ for our current ‘crisis standard of care’.
