Jerry Sparks, New American Legion Post 77 Commander

Navy Veteran Jerry Sparks is now the new commander of Wilbur C. Hall American Legion Post 77in Paul, which he has been a member of since 2013.

Commander Sparks is a resident of Rupert, where he lives with his wife, Roxanne.  Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy.  He later served with the U.S. Navy as a Weapons Instructor.  He was an AO1/AW/FMF – Aviation Ordinance man first Class, Air War Specialist, Fleet Marine Force.  He was on active duty from 1982 to 2002. 

He was involved in various conflicts; Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Southern Watch, and The United States invasion of Grenada.  During his military career, he was assigned to five different Naval Ships, and said; he spent a total of 10 years at sea.  He is a decorated Navy Veteran.

After tour of duties, he returned to the Mini-Cassia area.  He is now the Manger of Ronco Building Supply in Burley. 

Over the years, Commander Sparks participated in numerous post activities and events, and was previously elected and served as the post’s First Vice-Commander.   He continued in working closely with the Minidoka 4h club of which he was a member for many years. 

Commander Sparks said, “I will uphold American Legion traditions and bring new ideas to the post.”   The goal is to bring in new blood to an old post, he said, an encourage the younger Veterans to join.
