Saturday, August 7th Pomerelle Mountain will be holding their Annual Star Party.
Special telescopes for solar viewing will be set up at Pomerelle lodge 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and kids can make and launch bottle rockets. Pomerelle’s grill will be open for Mountain Hamburgers, dogs & ice cold beverages. Chris Anderson (CSI Herrett Center) will give a talk at 7:30 p.m. on “Our Summer Sky’s”. Ride to the top of the triple chair at dusk (8:30 to 9:00), view the stars through telescopes. Night viewing will run 9:00 p.m. to midnight. Pomerelle Mountain offers an enhanced opportunity to view the stars. This will be great fun for the entire family! Cost: $8 chairlift ride - 13 years of age and older.
$5 chairlift ride - 7 - 12 years of age. Children 6 years and younger are free when accompanied by a parent
Children must be under parental supervision at all times. Dress warmly, wear shoes & bring a jacket. Please fit all flashlights with a red filter to protect night vision.

Burley High School Girls’ Soccer Tryouts will be August 9-11 on the soccer field southwest of the high school (morning of August 9th meet at the high school track). August 9th and 10th morning session from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and afternoon from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Please come to both sessions on both days. Morning bring running shoes, afternoon bring shinguards, cleats, and soccer ball (if you have one). Bring water bottle to all sessions. Youth Soccer Camp: Burley High School girl’s soccer team will be hosting a youth soccer camp on Friday, August 27th from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, August 28th from 9-11 a.m. Ages 5 and up are invited. Everyone will receive a t-shirt and green wristband which allows them free entrance to a varsity soccer game with a paid adult. Pictures available at extra cost. The Cassia Joint School District is looking for preschool age children who may have special learning needs. If you are the parent or guardian of a 3 or 4 year old child who is experiencing a speech, physical, mental or emotional difficulty, you are encouraged to contact the Cassia Joint School District Office. The staff will arrange for you and your child to participate in a free screening. Children who attend private or home schools are eligible and encouraged to attend the screening.
Tuesday, August 10, 2010 is the next scheduled screening. The purpose of the screening is to determine if your child is eligible for the District’s Special Education Preschool Program or other Special Education services. Children who have a disability may attend the preschool or receive special education services free of charge.
Appointments for the August 10, 2010 screening are required. For an appointment, call Michele Knopp at 878-6627 ext. 101 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Only children and parents who have appointments will be screened.
The 2nd Annual Snake River Bluegrass Festival will be held on Saturday August 7th 2010 at the Heyburn Amphitheater.
There will be a bounce house provided by Party Hardy and several food vendors. Pancake breakfast begins at 9:00 a.m. with entertainment by Jason Parton and is free will donation. Admission to the music event is free; however we are asking attendees to bring a can food item to donate to South Central Community Action Partnership. An open jam session begins at 10:30 a.m. and is open to anyone who wants to participate. The banjo workshop begins at 12:00 p.m. Gary Bench at 1:30 p.m.; High Desert Band at 2:00 p.m.; Soles Rest at 4:00 p.m.; Front Porch Flavor at 6:00 p.m. and Strings Attached at 8:00 p.m.

Snake River Trail Machine Riders Potluck is scheduled for July 21, 2010, Exit 216, 7:00 p.m. August 1st will be a moderate ride at Big Piney/ Trapper Creek area roughly a 30 mile trip. Meeting at Perkins restaurant and leaving at 9:00 a.m.
Idaho Food Bank Food Distribution. Pre-registration for food boxes is every 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Senior Citizen Center in Burley and the Senior Citizen Center in Rupert. Both from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. You will need to provide proof of physical address. Caregivers registering for homebound or disabled persons need a copy of their photo ID, and a letter with their signature. Food Box Distribution is the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the National Guard Armory. Hours are provided at pre-registration.

Idaho State Dutch Oven Cook-Off, August 21, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Cassia County Fair. “Iron Chef” style cook-off with a mystery bag of food items and a full pantry to choose from. The Annual Ice Cream Social hosted by the Rupert United Methodist Church at 605 H St., Rupert, will be held this year on Sunday, August 15 at 6 p.m. on the front lawn of the church.
