Editors Note: As the weeks go buy it is becoming more difficult to identify restaurants that I haven’t yet visited. If you enjoy reading this food review column please send me ideas of where I might eat next. You can email me at jay@theweeklymailer.com or call the office at 208-678-6643 and …

For some, eating at a fast food restaurant like Panda Express isn’t the same as having a sit-down meal at a destination Chinese restaurant, but for me, I’m partial to a restaurant where the entire cooking process is done within eyesight, which is the way its done at the Burley Panda Express …

Dining at the AC Drive In is a unique experience because it isn’t the typical restaurant. There is no inside seating and what is outside isn’t very appealing when the weather drops below 60 degrees. Most of the dining experience happens when you take your order to go and eat it elsewhere. Th…

I feel that doing a restaurant review on a fast food joint to be somewhat of a cop-out but nevertheless this week’s review is about Wendy’s. It is somewhat ironic that while eating at Wendy’s this week we saw a number of kids and families from the Bear Lake area who were headed to the Treasu…

After driving past the Burley Burger’s Etc. location for what seems like a thousand times I made a left turn off Overland Ave. and had a wonderful lunch. There are two Burger’s Etc. locations in Mini-Cassia but this review is specific to the one on Overland Ave.

For the past eight months I have driven past the Gertie’s pizza and pasta restaurant in the Ridley’s Plaza in Rupert and finally this week made a point to stop and give it a go. It was a little confusing as to where the door going into the restaurant is. One side, facing west, is blocked by …

Over the course of the past ten months I have tried to do my very best in reviewing local restaurants. During that time there has been one restaurant that I have put off visiting and that is the Shon Hing located at 109 East Main in Burley. This past week I broke down and went there for lunc…

You may have noticed that we have repeated several previous restaurant reviews. When this happens, we try to mark them so that you would know they weren’t new reviews. AS we check restaurants off the list it becomes harder to think of new restaurants to review. I would ask you to let me know…

This week’s restaurant review is about El Caporal, an authentic Mexican restaurant located at 610 North Overland Ave, in Burley, next to Arby’s. This restaurant is one of our date night regulars, but this visit was for their lunch. We weren’t disappointed.

If you want to take a little trip back in time, simply arrange to have lunch with your friends at Sofie’s Chatterbox, located on the Rupert Square. This is not to say that the restaurant is out of date or old in physical appearance, rather, in the social experience of dining at a local café,…

Located at 1251 Overland Ave, Polo’s Café puts out a selection of cuisine fit for any hungry diner. Perhaps the greatest challenge for Polo, the cafés owner, is his non-traditional location. There aren’t many restaurants willing to give business a try by locating inside what was once a retai…

I have been putting off a trip to El Mirador for who knows why, so this week it came up as the place we would have our Thursday lunch. El Mirador is in the former Angela’s restaurant building on East Main in Burley, across from the new Maverik gas station.

Mexican food was on the menu this week with a visit to the Guadalajara restaurant, located in the former Prices Café building on south Overland in Burley. Guadalajara was in its previous location across the street from Young Automotive for at least 20 of the 24 years I have lived in Mini-Cas…

There is much to be said about this weeks dining out destination. Morey’s Steakhouse is now, and has for a long time been, the place to go for a nice sit-down dinner, but there’s a lot more to brag about. More square footage is a starting point but there’s much more to be said.

With my wife out of town for a second week, I invited a friend to lunch. We drove to Rupert and ate a wonderful lunch at the Drift Inn, one of our favorites.  Located on the newly remodeled Rupert Square, the Drift Inn is open for lunch and dinner. It won’t disappoint.

This week’s food review is about the Subway on South Overland in Burley. With my wife out of town I decided to go with a change of pace and give Subway another try. It has probably been ten years since I have ordered anything from that Subway location.

Relatively new to Mini-Cassia is the Costa Vida restaurant located in the shopping complex that has popped up on the old mall property. This is a chain restaurant that has been growing for years and recently our market met the criteria for having enough population for this restaurant to come…

One of our past regular dining spots was the Burley Pizza Hut restaurant, located in Burley. Going way back to the “Book -It” program the national chain does where Pizza Hut would give teachers reward coupons for students to reward them for accomplishing their reading goal. It gave us a reas…

It was back to one of Burley’s most successful fast food restaurants this week, located on North Overland Ave. Arby’s is in its own category of fast food with its signature roast beef sandwiches but the marketing moguls at Arby’s Corporate are constantly innovating with new ideas for delicio…

Though there are still plenty of places to eat that I haven’t reviewed, it is getting a little harder to have a desirable place pop into my head when I’m on the hunt for my next meal. This week it was KFC that sounded good. I must smile at the marketing people who changed the name from the K…

This past week’s restaurant choice was the Burnt Lemon Grill located on South Main in Burley. This is a restaurant my wife eats at with regularity, the patronage coming at the result of their excellent salads.

There are two China First restaurants in Burley, one of them in the 1200 block of Overland Ave and the second is in the 900 block of Overland Ave. This review pertains to our experience at the second. China First is easy to spot because the building is bright red in color. In the summer they…

I spent much of the past week at a newspaper conference in Las Vegas, so this week’s dining review is about the Maddox restaurant in Brigham City, Utah. If you haven’t heard of Maddox, you have been deprived of the most excellent food this side of the Mississippi. Located just outside of Bri…

This week we set sail for the Wayside Café, located on the Burley / Rupert Highway just past the spot where I-80 crosses over the highway at Exit 211. The Wayside is a landmark café and restaurant that caters to those who make eating their meals a social event. The prominent location along t…

Mexican food was back on the menu this week, taking us to a restaurant one of our employees swears by when she has the craving for authentic Mexican food. Aguila Con El Taco isn’t easy to pronounce but the food they serve more than makes up for the difficulty in repeating the name accurately…

This week saw us eating our lunch at Connor’s Café, located at the intersection of I-84 and Highway 27, also known as exit 208 on the Burley – Paul highway. For our family, Connor’s Café is hidden in plain sight, which is to say it is and always has been right there front and center but hasn…

This week we went back to Mexican food, dining for lunch at La Hacienda Mexican Food which is located at 139 West Main Street in Burley, doing business in the former Chadwick restaurant building.

This week’s write-up is about Kassiani Restaurant, one of the recently opened establishments we thought would never open. The efforts to make it a first-class restaurant took longer than any of us thought, but it’s now serving delicious food five days a week.

After weeks of passing it over, this past week I finally went to Stevo’s to have lunch and do a review. Stevo’s in located on the Burley – Paul highway, just north of the interstate. Stevo’s is perhaps the most iconic restaurant in Mini-Cassia, most famous for what it can do with a potato. S…

This week’s restaurant review is about El Caporal, an authentic Mexican restaurant located at 610 North Overland Ave, in Burley, next to Arby’s. This restaurant is one of our date night regulars, but this visit was for their lunch. We weren’t disappointed.

This week I returned to a restaurant I hadn’t patronized for more than two years. It’s funny when you attempt to reason why you have skipped eating at a particular spot, especially when no memories pop into your head. The Upper Crust restaurant is located on the second floor of the Gossners …

This week’s restaurant review is about Edith’s Restaurant, located at 144 East Hwy 81. Edith’s is located on the Declo Highway, directly across from the entrance to the Burley Golf Course. For many years Edith’s was known for its hamburgers and fresh cut fries, but a change of ownership has …
