Sadly, the same old shenanigans are occurring within the Cassia County School District. Earlier in the week a photo showing the temperature in a classroom at Mt. View Elementary, which if you recall was just remodeled, to be 55 degrees circulated on social media. The picture was from an educ…

It seems odd the MinidokaCounty middle schools have principals and spouses working in the same building.  Policy reads that a person may not directly supervise a relative, but district administration “skirted around” the rule by hiring a district supervisor.

I am writing in support of the wonderful faculty and staff of Declo High School. I was not raised in this small town or even this state, so I would be considered an outsider to most. The letter in the mailer last week explained that Declo community and school is a very tight knit community a…

Elizabeth Catmull Schroeder and Vanae Catmull Richardson would like to thank all the wonderful people who after a fire totally destroyed our home and took the lives of our two wonderful dogs on November 27, 2018.

In the neighborhood where I live, some "helpful" person is removing snow from the sidewalks with a 4 - wheeler. Sounds great right? Well the first few times it was.

As outgoing President of the Oakley Valley Arts Council I would like to thank a couple of individuals who have given great time and support the last two years in behalf of OVAC. Megan Reynolds offered to write a grant for us and because of her efforts we received a grant from PMT to make bad…

Jack and Mary would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the individuals who so generously donated food, money, clothing, coats, blankets, or helped at the Community pre-Thanksgiving meal held at Golden Heritage Senior Citizen Center.  Five hundred fifty people were served a wond…

ELECTION! There is no wailing and gnashing of teeth at my place, nor am I going to move to Canada! But, I was very disappointed. I did feel better after President Trump’s press conference.  Really liked the way he put down that fool representing CNN! !

With the upcoming election we have a unique opportunity to vote for someone to serve as our next District Judge. This is an important position and one that may have a substantial impact on our community. A good judge should possess the following traits: judicial temperament, intelligence, a …

Ever try to skip a flat rock across a pond?  If you did a good job you might cause a small ripple.  If the liberals are lucky they might cause a small ripple.  I really believe republicans will ride a huge wave.  I think the people of the United States are fed up with all this protesting.  P…

In the upcoming election we have the opportunity to vote relative to an open position for District Judge in the Fifth District. I am writing to encourage support for David Gadd in that position. I have known David Gadd for many years since he started practicing and I am familiar with his exc…

I am writing this letter to recommend David Gadd as District Judge for the Fifth Judicial District.  I have known Dave for 15 years.   We studied together in law school and had a carrel next to each other.  As a student, Dave was exceptionally bright, graduating in the top 10% of his class. …

Albion City citizens:  On Tuesday Nov. 6th you will be asked to put a mark in history to place your vote on a ballot to recall the city mayor.  Please support the citizens of this great valley who had the courage to stand up and put their names on a petition and now needs your VOTE to stand …

This is in response to Nile Maricle's "Sound Off" letter published on October 16, 2018. I am a registered Republican.  When I read what he said about Judge Kavanaugh, I was deeply upset. His comment about "paid protesters", even though its a great story for reality TV or certain media organi…

This letter goes out to the Whitney Murphy family. I too, am very frustrated at how our county officials have handled the investigation and prosecution of the murders of Whitney Murphy and Tiffany Streling. I wrote a critical letter to the Sound Off over 2 years ago, and was told to be patient and that the Sheriff was doing everything he could. Well, I'm here to tell you that the Sheriff and the Prosecutor have totally dropped the ball on these two cases. And unfortunately, they are safe in their jobs for the next two years. In both cases, it is obvious to everybody, who committed these crimes. The only people that can't figure it out, are the ones who we have entrusted and who have to power, to bring these violent perpetrators to justice. If your experiences are like mine. When you call in to ask about the progress on these cases, you are blown off. Calls aren't returned. I didn't know either one of these girls. I remember seeing Whitney around town and always thought, how nice she seemed. Neither one of them were killed by random strangers. The only recourse, we as the public have is to put pressure on our officials. If enough of us care enough to do this maybe we can force our incompetent pubic officials to do the job we pay them to do. Put the pressure on the officials we have the power to replace in two years. Sheriff Heward and DA Abernoth. Do you dang job or we will fire you. And to the Murphy family. I am sorry for your loss. And even though, I don't know you. I care and I support you.

Thompson Flatt campground! For those that have never been it’s not a long drive.  All on a paved road!  No dust, no fuss!  Less than 30 miles from my palace south of Rupert.   Very nice sights, saw a young bull moose and a lot of does and fawns.  If you are considered a senior citizen and yo…

I would like to take a few moments to thank the people of the Albion community for the many things they do and how they will help each other.  Individuals and their family of both those who live in and out of town contribute so much.  I would like to take a minute and comment on several thin…

Well: CassiaCounty Citizens it seems that there is some displeasure once again with the way we are being represented in our county.  WashingtonD.C. has nothing on us.  CassiaCounty also has a deep cesspool of our own.  We are so used to being treated as nothing more than slaves that it takes…

November, as voters and responsible Idahoans, we must perform meticulous research about ballot items, especially Proposition 2, Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion. Because I care about my children and grandchildren, and I don’t want Idaho’s next generations to be crippled by debt. Ask yourself, …

On behalf of the Magic Valley Folk Festival, I would like to thank the Mini-Cassia area for supporting this year’s festival.  We had a wonderful experience with dancers and musicians from China, Belarus, Bolivia, Peru, and Slovakia.  They danced and shared their cultures with us and we learn…

The recent decision of the Burley City Council should really come as no surprise.  The current council and mayor is made up of 4 bankers, one self-anointed common sense guy, a puppet and a retired fertilizer salesman.  Their record speaks for itself, when City Administrator Mitton says “we n…

I was sad to hear Senator John McCain passed on.  I would like to pay tribute to this extraordinary man.  He was a Senator, public servant, statesman, a True American hero, and a legend.  He came from a military family and was a naval pilot in Vietnam.  He was a P.O.W. for several years and …

To the person who wrote about the Albion City Council meeting,,, I am not sure what meeting you attended but what you are describing is not what I saw or heard, For instance - Public Hearing on the budget portion, It is correct there is not a line item but a general budget item. It costs abo…

I want to point out a travesty that impacted every fair goer. It involves what the Cassia Fair Board had to pay to have the garbage cans emptied at the fair. Up until several years ago the garbage was collected by the City of Burley as a courtesy to the fair board, but now it is costing them…

Albion City Council and citizens should be embarrassed on how the city mayor (currently up for impeachment) and a councilman conducted themselves in the last city council meeting dated August 7, 2018.  I am livid for the city patrons that have paid good money for this governing body to be no…
